What Now Barack?

It’s the morning after the landslide.

So while the vanquished piece together their shattered dreams and think of how the next four years will be like for the Republican Party, Team Barack’s euphoria of victory is subsiding to reveal the foreboding landscape.

Images of jobless Americans whose dreams are now hitched on the changes President-elect Barack Hussein Obama said they could believe in.

His plate is overflowing with so many aspirations waiting for fruition.

And this the includes those of America’s ‘allies’

Filipinos have been quick to jostle for the attention of the 47-year-old 44th president of the United States.

And as Team Barack begins receiving country-by-country situationers from the Central Intelligence Agency and the State Department’s overt, and covert, listening posts,  we can be certain Mr. Obama’s policy close-ins will get thick of reports about enforced disappearances, summary executions, the insurgencies, Al Qaeda-influenced bandits, poverty and hunger, and most of all corruption, corruption, corruption.

You can almost hear them say, “the P.I. SURELY NEEDS A LOT OF FIXIN’.”

The balance will need to be struck between initiatives to help the Philippines with the attached strings not showing and down right meddling.

The ‘initiatives’ if done too obviously or perceived to be overbearing will fuel anti-American sentiments.

But the historic and familial bonds can only get stronger, as up to 3 million Filipinos and counting share in the American Dream, the same dream that swept a once skinny black kid with roots in Kenya and Indonesia to power as leader of the free world.

GODSPEED, President Barack.
